The Calcutta High Court has ordered Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami to pay ₹4 lakh per month as interim maintenance to his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, and their daughter. Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee directed ₹1.5 lakh for Jahan and ₹2.5 lakh for their daughter, revising a previous lower court order that had set the total at ₹1.3 lakh.
The decision came after Jahan appealed the earlier ruling, arguing that it was insufficient. The court acknowledged Shami’s financial capacity and stated the revised amount ensures financial stability for the petitioners.
Jahan had filed a domestic violence case against Shami in 2018, citing physical and mental abuse, dowry harassment, and financial neglect. She had originally sought ₹10 lakh per month in relief.
The court also noted that Shami can voluntarily contribute additional funds for their daughter’s education or other needs beyond the court-mandated amount.
